Learn how the lymphatic vessel system works in distributing lymphatic fluids that affect immune cell trafficking, infections, fibrosis, and post-surgical edema. Learn to sequentially and systematically decongest swelling in the tissues and redirect lymphatic fluids utilizing Manual Lymphatic Drainage techniques for physical therapy patients, and massage clients.
Participants will review anatomy and pathophysiology of the Lymphatic System and learn the specific benefits of Manual Lymphatic Drainage techniques based on their patient/clinic population as well as case studies with consideration to indications and contra-indications.
Hands-on practice of lymphatic therapy techniques will also include sequential decongesting of the lymph vessel system while accessing anterior and posterior anastomoses for the safe re-routing of lymphatic fluids to viable lymph nodes.
This course will enable clinicians to improve their understanding and identification of lymphatic insufficiency and help them to empower their patients with exercise protocols and preventative measures for those patients at risk of developing lymphedema.
Participants will adapt protocols for each patient’s anatomy and medical needs by learning to map a decongestion route to safely move excess interstitial fluid (edema) around scars to promote healing and immune cell trafficking for patients preparing for and undergoing surgery.
Therapists will focus on specific isolated exercise protocols, designed to improve the movement of fluids, learn the value of skin protection for those who have lymphatic insufficiency and teach their patients self-manual lymphatic drainage as well as how to prevent fluid build- up during exercise.
This course also includes a lively review of Case Studies typically seen in a therapeutic clinical setting, and marketing tips on reaching their patient population and the medical community at large.
This is a valuable introductory course with lively discussions, review and plenty of hands-on practice time as well as Q & A.

Learn the ancient Ayurvedic treatment-Kansa Wand therapy. The Kansa Wand Foot Treatment is a unique and relaxing spa treatment rooted in Ayurveda, a holistic system of medicine from India. The treatment focuses on your feet, which practitioners believe have powerful energy or accupressure points called Marma that when stimulated increases energy and vitality throughout your entire body. During a Kansa Wand Foot Treatment, a therapist will use a special tool called a Kansa Wand, which is made from a blend of copper and tin. This wand with its’ bronze end cap is gently rubbed on your feet, with extra focus stimulating the specific Marma points. The treatment aims to balance three energies present in all of us, known as Doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. The Kansa Wand, combined with gentle massage techniques, is thought to restore the balance of these energies, leading to a sense of well-being and vitality. Many people find that the Kansa Wand Foot Treatment not only relaxes their feet but also promotes a sense of calm and balance throughout their entire body.
